Lucia Nights

Bishop Hill will be celebrating the Lucia tradition on the evenings of Friday and Saturday, December 7th and 8th from 6-9 p.m. Each window in the village will be lit with a single candle. All of the shops, museums and restaurants will be open, and most will feature a young lady dressed in the traditional Lucia manner with white gown and red sash. Wearing a crown of candles, each Lucia will be serving complimentary sweets to all who enter.

Legend has it that St. Lucia appeared surrounded by light bringing food to the famine ravaged Sweden. Each year St. Lucia is celebrated in Sweden during the year’s darkest days.

Concerts by the Peoria Cooperative Academy Chorale, and other musicians have become holiday traditions with many guests. For many years the Arts Council has raised funds for its scholarships at previous concerts, which has benefited area fine arts students.
