Jeffrey Goard was born and raised in Chillicothe, Illinois just 20 miles north of Peoria and is situated along the banks of the Illinois river.
Jeffrey was first introduced to pottery by his great Aunt, Lorraine Edwards, who was an established potter and taught pottery at Bob Jones University at Greenville, South Carolina.
Jeffrey took his first pottery lesson in high school during the late 1970's from Chuck Flagg.
Later, at Colorado State University, Jeffrey studied archaeology and became interested in ancient pottery. During this time he also began to study and collecting contemporary pottery, both studio work and production work. Some of his private collection include Roseville, Mccoy, U.S.A. and Rookwood pottery, where much of his influence can be found.
As recent as this past year, Jeffrey began his formal training as a potter at the age of 45. He studies at Illinois Central College under Stephen H. Knight.
Jeffrey's mentors were Chase Slover and Ben Watkins. Jeffrey's work can be seen and purchased at the Town Gallery and Happy Thought Coffee, both in Chillicothe. His work can also be found here at the Prairie Arts Center in Bishop Hill, where he is now the resident potter. potter4now@yahoo.com
